Doctor
Who - two paperback releases for April
Amorality
Tale - David Bishop
London's smog-ridden East End during the 1950s is the setting for
this Third Doctor novel with Sarah Jane Smith. The Doctor, disguising
himself thinly as a watchmender, has arrived to try and uncover
the cause of a swathe of mysterious deaths in the East End. Four
thousand people died in the area in just one week, their deaths
apparently linked to a choking smog. Even more mysteriously, many
of the bodies were never recovered.
Meanwhile,
East End gangland leader, Tommy Ramsay, is finding life on the outside
fairly difficult after a six month stretch. The "watchmender"
has been provoking mutiny amongst his protection clients, and a
rival gang has started carving its way into his territory. Normally,
this would pose no problem for Tommy, but in this case, they are
far from normal. These are aliens.
A dedicated
priest, father Xavier, with his mission for peace, seems to provide
an island of harmony amongst the menace and brutality of the gangs,
but when his followers start to act strangely, without apparent
wills of their own, it is to Father Xavier and his kind that the
Doctor must look to unravel the mysteries of the fog.

Trading
Futures - Lance Parkin
On the Earth of the not so distant future, Europe and the US have
become rival superpowers and a tense situation in North Africa,
where they both have interests to protect, threatens to boil over
into full-scale war. Into this mix, a mysterious source is inviting
agents from the rival powers to bid for the ultimate weapon - a
device which enables time travel. Both powers are naturally tempted,
as is a rogue member of the now-defunct British Secret Service.
The final element in the mix is a race of rhino-like aliens, the
Onihrs, who abduct Fitz in the hope of getting their hands on the
device. Time Agents are desperate to prevent the arrival of such
a dangerous capability in a society nowhere near advanced enough
to cope with it, while the Doctor needs to find out exactly what
is going on, before anyone kills him. This is an eighth Doctor novel
with Fitz and Angi.
