One Square Mile on Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ World News – a breeding ground for Silicon Valley Start-ups

Silicon Valley is a name synonymous with internet companies, innovation and entrepreneurial flair, as well as periods of business boom and bust. But if one building could be said to epitomise the uniquely successful business culture of the Valley, it would be the little-known address of 165 University Avenue in Palo Alto.

One Square Mile airs on Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ World News television from Saturday 28 August, and is supported with a multimedia package on Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ.com/news. The programme looks at the fascinating history of the 165 University Avenue building, and the remarkable number of technology start-ups – Google, PayPal and Logitech – that began life there before going on to global success.

Presented by Peter Day, the programme meets the owner of 165 University Avenue, as well as Max Levchin, the co-founder of PayPal, and Craig Silverstein, Google’s first ever employee, who recall their early days working at the address.

The programme also looks at how the building’s success, in incubating technology start-ups, has been extended by the owner. A new centre for tech entrepreneurs in the Valley, called Plug and Play, now houses like-minded entrepreneurs under one roof and supports the expansion of their business.

Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ.com/startupstories will be featuring a range of content, including extra material from the programme, and a series of 10 video interviews in which business leaders talk about the secrets of their success and share advice about how to be a successful entrepreneur.
