The Afternoon Show has something for everyone – from parents to grandparents and teenagers to toddlers - we tackle issues that are relevant to the whole family... so dip in and have a listen to some of the gems you have missed!

Adrian Flanagan made history this year, as the first lone yachtsman to sail vertically around the world.Ìý He was inspired to set off on this adventure as a young boy, after reading Sir Francis Chichester's account of his record breaking circumnavigation of the world.Ìý Setting sail many years later, was a dream come true for Adrian.

We heard many peoples' inspiring stories during Black History Month.Ìý Pastor Memory, who is from Zimbabwe, spoke to Jo about what life was like for him growing up in South Africa and how he felt a calling to the church.Ìý His passion for reaching out to people brought him eventually to Oxford.

Sarah Layton from North Stoke has the intriguing title of Oxfordshire's Chocolate Fairy.ÌýShe helps people discover a new attitude to food and dieting, teaching them how to listen to what their bodies actually want and how to feel more confident about themselves and their looks.ÌýShe told Jo how her mother put her on a diet when she was just 7 years old, and what a profound affect that had on her life and her attitude to food...

Jessica Taylor is a remarkable teenager.Ìý Just over a year ago she was diagnosed with a brain tumour and underwent surgery at the Children's Hospital here in Oxford.ÌýSince her diagnosis, Jessica's grandfather Derek Huddleston has worked tirelessly to fund raise for the Children's Hospital, and in particular to raise money for nine media rooms for two of the wards.Ìý Derek explained how and when he first started on the campaign...

Peter Thomas from Abingdon currently runs a video production company here in Oxfordshire, but he's also had his fair share of life in front of the camera lens.Ìý Since the 1950s, he has had an enviable number of roles in films and television programmes.Ìý He has been in everything from Cleopatra with Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor to Z Cars and even Doctor Who.Ìý He told Jo when he first dreamt of becoming an actor...

Where do the photos come from that you see gracing the pages of magazines, brochures or other publications?Ìý Some will come from specific photo shoots that have been commissioned by the publication, but other pictures come from stock libraries where photos can be bought of pretty much any image your heart desires.Ìý But who is responsible for these photos that create these extensive libraries?Ìý One man who knows is James West from Oxford who is a co-founder of Alamy - the worlds largest online photo library - and its based here in Oxfordshire at Milton Park.Ìý He told Jo what was the secret behind his success...

Simon Cruden from Oxford was diagnosed with a brain tumour when he was just 12 years old.Ìý Fortunately, skilled surgeons at the Radcliffe Infirmary hospital were able to remove most of the tumour, although he has been left with very limited sight and is now registered blind.Ìý He now uses his personal experience to help parents and children who are going through similar traumatic surgery.Ìý He told Jo how difficult it was for him growing up, with endless trips to hospitals...

Local Photographer John Henshall from Stanford in the Vale had planned a visit to China to visit friends, when a devastating earthquake hit the Sichuan province on 12th May 2008.Ìý But instead of cancelling his visit, John collected over £1500 and set off to Chengdu to buy much needed supplies for some of the children whose homes and schools had been destroyed.Ìý John had been to China many times before, but this particular visit had a profound effect on his own life.Ìý He told Jo his story...

Korky Paul was born in 1951 in Zimbabwe in to a family of seven children.Ìý He enjoyed a wild and privileged childhood in the African bush veldt - and read a lot of American comic books.Ìý Known only to himself as the 'World's Greatest Portrait Artist', Korky regularly holds drawing workshops at libraries, schools and museums to promote and encourage his passion for drawing.Ìý But what about the man behind the magic…Jo Thoenes talked with Korky about his life and how it led him to Oxford….
