Veronica in India

22: The end!

Student Veronica has entertained us with tales of life at York's university over the last three years. At last, she's got that degree, but as she spends graduation day in India what does the future hold? Here's Veronica's final diary entry...

Having just finished a nerve wracking call to the Departmental Office to be greeted with the fantastic news that I somehow scraped a 2.1, I am writing this in a slight state of shock!

I’m still finding it hard to believe that my time as an undergraduate student is finally over. I’ve moved out of my student house (fortunately before the floods hit Yorkshire), said my goodbyes and am ready to face the world - well nearly ready.

The truth is that after months of umming and ahhing about postgraduate study, I finally decided to apply for an MA in Museums and Galleries and thanks to today’s result am now able to accept the conditional place I’ve been offered to start a course at Winchester this October.

It’s a pity I’ve only really begun to appreciate University at the end of my degree but I’m determined not to let that get me down.

My time at York may not have been what I envisioned three years ago, and I certainly didn’t expect to be spending the day of my degree ceremony on a last minute trip to India, dressed for Monsoons and 40 degree heat, rather than the traditional mortar board and gown. However, as I’m beginning to realise, nothing turns out exactly as planned!

All that really matters is that I’ve got that degree I so desperately wanted and have just enough time to cram in a last minute back packing trip to India, a summer job at helping with art activities at Beningbrough Hall and a week’s indulgence in Florence before I head back to the world of academia.

Taking this into account maybe I shouldn’t be lamenting the end of student life just yet. In fact there’s always the chance that as a wise and mature postgraduate I might enjoy university even more the second time around!
