Wacky policemen

Cop out?

We're used to voting for celebs as they eat bugs or ice skate out of obscurity. But what about voting for the crime YOU think the police should crack down on.

Radio York

Join Jeremy Buxton for Breakfast between 7am and 10am.

Listen to Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio York: 103.7 FM, 95.5 FM and 104.3 FM plus 666 & 1260 MW and online.

For the first time in York, residents of Foxwood and Woodthorpe are being asked to vote for the crimes they would like to see their neighbourhood police team concentrate on in their area.

This scheme has been successful in other parts of the country and if it works in these two areas of York, it may well be rolled out across the rest of the city.

We've decided to hold our own crimebusting vote. So, no matter where in the county you live, we want to know which crimes you'd like to see your local bobby concentrate on.

We've narrowed it down the following...

Anti-social behaviour

Is this something you would like your neighbourhood policeman to crack down on?

Maybe there are young people causing problems near you, such as hanging about on street corners, drawing grafitti, drinking and being abusive.

Maybe you have noisy or disruptive neighbours and feel the police don't do enough?

Theft/burglary

Maybe you've been burgled at home, had something stolen from the garden or the shed or garage.

The theft of cars and bikes would come into this category too. Also, something which is becoming more common is identity theft.

Is this something you think the police should do more about?

Motoring offences

Does bad driving make you see red?

Drink drivers or driving under the influence of drugs, should the police spend more time on these offences.

Speeding and jumping red lights are all dangerous, but do they annoy you enough to vote?

What about using a mobile phone, or eating or drinking while driving and driving while tired are all things which can contribute to accidents.

Vote for your top crime

So, which of these do you think the police should crack down on? You can vote on the right hand side of this page. Listen to Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio York's Breakfast with Jeremy Buxton to find out more...

We want to know why you've voted for each crime - fill in the form below.

Simone Wearne From Skipton
I think there are too many traffic accidents offences around such as speeding and driving carelessly with mobile phones etc an feel this should be tackled to stop speeding drivers etc causing accidents and possible deaths and i think anti social behaviour trouble makers hanging round in gangs up to no good should also be tackled along with many other crimes. I also feel it is very rare in some places especially at night to see officers on the beat out walking keeping their eye on things as they are usually in cars but having said that due to lots of theft in Skipton thankfully there are a lot of police presence around here which is good for the market town and feel many police here look very unhappy miserable lot that dont enjoy their jobs very much though i guess some do

Simon
I would just be happy for them to concentrate on any crime. Why do we have to vote for a particular crime. I always thought the Police were there to protect us and investigate when any crime was committed. Mind you this may mean them getting out of a car so best not eh! Why not just use the money to fund more patios and showers?

It would be nice to see a police person walking on the streets of Scarborough instead of being in cars all the time even driving through pedestrian areas. The only time we see a member of N.Y.P dept out of a car is when they are pictured in the local evening paper. If the poilce goit out of their cars they would be pestered and threatened by cyclests who take over the pavements as cycle tracks and if a pedestrian approaches them about riding on the pavement they are given a mouthful of abuse and sometimes threatenedLet's see some of the millions of pounds they have in the bank spent to protect the citizens of Scarborough

Valentine Lipp
Anti social behaviour because when it goes unchecked, especially among the young,it often develops into worse crime.

Michael Charles Usherwood
Anti social behaviour is anything that interferes with other peoples freedom from cycling on the pavement to robbery

Cynical Stoic
Anti social behaviour , unchecked it only becomes worse.

Alan Rowntree
It's not so much a case of "cracking down" it's more the need for a police presence which acts as a deterrent and prevents the crime from occuring in the first place. We need the "Bobby" on the beat.

Dave Wells
