My name is Steph Wilkinson and I am a Performing Arts student from Northallerton College. As part of our AS course we have to organise an event. This year our teachers have decided to go that one bit further and have joined together with Ryedale Folk Museum in Hutton-le-Hole to put on a whole weekend event along the theme of 1920s.

We have been given a budget of Β£3,000 of the museum's money. Obviously, this is a big project with a lot of responsibility so myself and the rest of our team have been working really hard to think of as many ideas as possible to fill the weekend and get as many people to the museum.

"One of the major problems was that a lot of people would not take us seriously because of our age"

There will be things like murder mysteries, treasure hunts, a 1920s themed ball, gangster and molls acting and much more. We have already organized and put on a ''battle of the bands' to raise money for the project, which went very well and we made a good profit.

All of these things have taken lots of planning and we have overcome many hurdles to get us where we are now. One of the major problems was that a lot of people would not take us seriously because of our age and did not think that we would be able to organise something to a high standard. That is why this weekend must go well so that we can not only prove to ourselves that we can do it but to everyone else as well.

The students get in character

It has been a really tough project and there have been many problems for us all. It has been such an overwhelming project and there is so much responsibility involved. I for one can’t wait until a week today where I can finally breathe again and just look back on it and feel happy about how well we’ve done.

This project has definitely made me change as a person. I have learned to deal with other personalities, to control a lot of my anger and just sit back and reflect. It has been a massive journey for us all and are looking forward to hosting the event and hopefully making it a huge success.
