Are you involved in a project or community in North Yorkshire? Do you have a special interest or hobby? Are you a student? Do you want to keep others up to date with the latest news? Could you be one of our bloggers?

What is a blog?

Blogs, or Weblogs, are websites where entries are displayed in chronological order, rather like a diary.

A website might consist of nothing more than a blog with many posts, or the blog might be a small part of a larger website, like this one.

Blogs often centre around one particular topic such as politics, but can also function as a personal diary.

Because people involved in the story are often in the best position to share it with other people the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ North Yorkshire website hosts a number of blogs. The subjects vary from army life in Iraq to looking after a local nature reserve.

Why would you want to write a blog?

Blogs are a great way to share your thoughts, tell people about something that matters to you and get other people involved in a project you're part of. Perhaps you're embarking on a new venture that you think is a bit unusual. Or taking part in something that's a new experience you want to share.

So a North Yorkshire blog can be on pretty much any topic, providing it's about something or someone in the county.

A blog can be something that keeps on going for a long period of time, or it can be short lived; perhaps for the duration of a specific project that you're involved with.

How do you start a North Yorkshire blog?

Get in touch with us via e-mail: northyorkshire@bbc.co.uk and let us know what you'd like your blog to be about.

All we ask is that bloggers agree to send regular updates (although not too regularly, fortnightly is probably best) and include pictures where possible and appropriate.

Keeping your blog us to date is very easy. Simply e-mail each update to us and we'll get it on the site as quickly as we can.

Could you be a student diarist?

We're looking for students studying in North Yorkshire or who are from the county. We'd like to hear from anyone, young or mature students, those with children, whether you're attending university or college, whatever your course.

All you need to do is e-mail a short diary to us approximately every couple of weeks to fit around your studies or partying.

You can write about absolutely anything, from toga parties to topical student issues - it's your site, so over to you! And of course, your Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ diary will look great on your CV once you start looking for a job after your studies.

What you need to do:
1. Send us a short paragraph of biographical info about yourself, together with a photo (in .jpg format).

2. E-mail a regular diary entry to us (say once a month, but it's up to you, quality is much more important than quantity!)

3. Diary entries can be accompanied by pictures, but please ensure that any images you send us are copyright free.

4. You can write about any subject you like that affects you as a student in the county.
