Phat Bob
Phat Bob

My name is Robert Rainey. Belfast born and bred for all the good it's done me. I have been writing for ten or twelve years and reading for five or six at Arcadia Cafe - now relocated to Whites Tavern - and have taken part in many Cathedral Quarter Arts Festivals. Some of my poetry has been published in The Lonely Poets Guide to Belfast and more will be out in a book called Ringing the Changes.

Waking Up by Phat Bob
This is one of those Sunday morning feelings;
Stoned immaculate,
Awake
in wonderful
and subtle warmth
This easy breathing’s
give and take

Each sound sounds so familiar now
I realize this with
no surprise
It seems we’re always waking up
to cool crisp air,
clear shining skies

A purple glitter-surfaced sea
slick shimmers in this
holding heat
Your ululations lulling me
to stay awake
to watch your sleep.
