John Edmundson

"Now these were dark days. From somewhere we heard swing music... this was unheard of"

The Story

John has memories of the first American troops to arrive in Britain during the Second World War. In a time of rationing, hunger and despair, the American soldiers brought a bit of colour back to the streets of Belfast. John describes with great detail, the relief that he and his contemporaries felt at seeing their new comrades join the struggle against Nazism.

Comment: John Edmundson is my father which is something I am very proud to say this was a story I had not heard until now and it touched me. My generation grew up with so many blessing and never felt the hardships that my father is speaking about it is a very humbling thing indeed.
