Comment: How nostalgic to hear Brigid's story. Joe was my uncle and I was in that shop manys a time It was just great to see the image of Joe at the griddle with the flour-encrusted radio in the background. I don't think the radio was ever switched off!
The memories came flooding back.
Now that I am living in England it stirred the taste buds for his potato bread - without doubt the best I have ever eaten. Joe and his wife Mary used to send it by post to friends in Australia. Heavens only knows what condition it was in when it arrived!
Great little story.

Comment: really interesting story. its great to see we've come a long way in norn iron. it aint perfect just yet but its an improvement on what it was. thanks for your story brigid. i have a real urge for some fresh soda's now!
