A lifeguard's hut on the beach.

No sand or hut on this challenge!

Monday Night Sport v Lifeguards

It was off to Lings forum for a spot of lifeguarding with Geoff, Jon and Tim.

Darren Butcher was their guide, he's trained many a lifeguard but how would they get on with Geoff, Tim (our blast reporter) and Jon? With the help of Danes Camp lifeguard Alex they found out.

First up was the depth test where they had to pull a body (or Tango Man as it's known) off the bottom of the pool.

The next challenge was a rescue using a throw bag, which is a bag with rope in you undo the bag, loop the rope around your wrist, dip the bag in the water to give it some weight then we had to throw it over the head of the casualty so they can grab the rope, and we can pull them to safety.

The final test was the big one. They had to swim 20 meters to a drowning Alex, and whilst holding him under the chin, swim back the 20 meters and it all had to be done in under 65 seconds

Alex showed the boys how to do it in 46 seconds!!!!

If that's got you interested in training up to be a lifeguard courses are run regularly through the councils and through the leisure centres.
