We are being told that the price of food has increased, not to mention fuel prices which we have all seen increase in recent weeks.

For some, filling up a tank of petrol has increased by as much as Β£15 - Β£20. Household energy bills are also set to increase by up to 70% over the winter if the current price of oil stays high.

So how does this affect you? Will you have to increase mortgage repayments? Or are you finding it hard to even get a mortgage?

Does it mean that you may have to give up your car or change where you shop? Will you have to take on another job just to make ends meet? We would really like to hear your story.

We have energy saving light bulbs in every room of the house, do not have an electric kettle, all appliances etc are switched off when not used. The heating is on 15, barely ticking over, the water comes on twice a day for an hour each time. Still it has made no change in the amount we pay in electricity or gas. So what does that prove?

The increase in prices has meant that my partner and I dress a little more warmly - our bills have not risen dramatically, but having recently moved back from Spain, it has been a shock to have to pay such high bills - my quarterly bill costs more than a years bill in Spain and that's with the cold marble floors and winter period.

So far it has not affected me very much at all, and with regards to gas & electricity will not do so until the end of April 2010, as in 2005 I went on BG price freeze and it has turned out to be the best decision I have made for a long time. I do not have a mortgage (all paid off) so that does not affect me, and I can afford to use my car as and when I want to.

As retired people with no mortgage, we are lucky that we can use our car less to reduce the effect of increased petrol prices. But both our children have mortgages, are self-employed, and the economic downturn is badly affecting their small business and we worry for them.

We're having to be more careful and won't be putting the heating on for a few weeks yet. Then we're going to have the heating on less than last winter.
