Tear-Stained

By Paul Annis from Desborough.

Gone is the happy, carefree, laughing boy that used to be and instead stands a man who has lost everything he's ever cared about. He never laughs and never smiles, he just simply exists.

He is just there, devoid of all emotions save the most hurtful ones. He had everything but is reduced to nothing by the same woman who before their split had always brought him so much joy and love.

The last signs of their relationship are his tear-stained cheeks and broken heart. He forces himself to raise a mental mask day after day as a last ditch attempt at stopping people from seeing just how deep the pain runs, to make himself look calm and collected for her sake if nothing else. All so that she doesn't see just how badly its affecting him, meaning that she can carry on with no regrets or sadness at her decision.

Despite his every effort people still note the pain and misery in his eyes, the lack of smile, and his tear-stained face, and they try to be of some comfort. It doesn't help though because he knows that he has lost the only thing in his life with any meaning to him. Time after time he asks himself why it took so long for him to realise it, when it's too late and she’s gone.

Yet no matter how low he feels, he forces himself to go on, refusing to just give up like he's done so many times in the past. For not a day passes by when he doesn't hope and pray for the day when he can hold her in his arms, knowing that she loves him the way she did before.
