SpaceHopper

By Robert Allen, 11, from Northampton.

It was another dull day on starship Ximis. We had been cruising through the same sector of space for weeks. I was unbearably bored so I left the control panel and ambled over to the coffee machine.
"Coffee!" I ordered.
"For a start," rambled the coffee machine, "a please would be nice. And coffee is so unhealthy, you ought to be having a nice, healthy, fruit drink from the machine next door."
I kicked the machine.
"Fine, fine, have a coffee, but don't come runningÌý to me when you get eaten by a giant space-slug!"
As I was gingerly sipping my coffee, I noticed a disgusting, yucky, slimy, green trail on the floor. I followed it and crept silently to where it was leading - the sleeping quarters!
I entered the chamber and glanced round furtively. Suddenly, I heard a giant snorting sound coming from above me!
"Yaaah!!!" I yelled in surprise, only to find, when I looked up, the dozing Captain.
"Phew..." I sighed to myself.
As I reached the second sleeping compartment, I noticed a red liquid, dripping from the walls. The room was deserted.
Later, I hovered near the Captain, trying desperately to catch his attention.
"Come down from there, and stop showing off those new Hover boots Lieutenant Zaphé!"
"Yes Sir, sorry Sir," I apologised, "Sir! I've found oozing trails of slime, blood dripping all over the walls, and most of the crew are missing!"
"Well,Ìý Zaphé," Mumbled the Captain, "I expect, the slime was just caused by problems with hydraulics, and as for the blood, I expect someoneÌýdropped a bottle of ketchup."
"And the crew?" I inquired.
"Oh, for heaven's sakeÌý LieutenantÌýZaphé, there is nothing abnormal going on!"
"I think there's a space-slug on board!" I whispered.
"My god, Zaphé there's no such thing as..."
At that moment, the door burst off it's hinges as a GIANT, Slimy, green, space-slug, with a manic, evil, grin on it's face, entered the room.
Meanwhile, a shadow landed on top of SS Ximis and all lights had been cut out.
Captain Xavier and I bolted blindly down the corridor and reached the escape-pod bay, trouble was, there was only one, one man pod.
"Well," said the Captain hurriedly, "I outrank you so... I get to use the pod!!!"
With that, the Captain scrambled into the pod and shot off. At that moment, the shadow dispatched itself from the starship and engulfed the pod. One sickening crunch later, the whole pod had been devoured and the shadow returned to the starship.
I ran for my life as the space-slug chased me. It was unusually fast for a slug! I bolted into the storage chamber and locked, latched, and bolted the door.
"Phew." I sighed out loud. I was safe. A squelching noise behind me made me spin round and stop in my tracks. Three space-slugs were advancing towards me from the edge of the room. The stench filled my nostrils as they came closer, and closer, and... AAArrg!!!!!!
