My Illusive Wife

By Lois Aziz from Nether Heyford in Northamptonshire.

I have not seen her, my illusive wife,
Long gone are the days marriage lasts for life.
A stunner with those eyes, and long red hair,
A head turner, they'd all look, they'd all stare.
I loved her, but I wasn't good enough,
Too poor, too inconsiderate, too rough.
She had it good with me. She'll find that out,
He filled her head with dreams and lies no doubt,
I'm yours she said, even cut off her hair,
But, she still carried on with the affair.
Of course she denied it, but it was true,
Her eyes, they laughed at me, altered my view.
My mum always said I would rue the day,
I took dads advice, he had lots to say:
'just look at her, you must need your head read,
Ten years younger and I'd have her in bed.
You have your fun with her, be proud she's yours,
She'll change with the babies and household chores.
All yours then, unattractive to others,
They're all the same when they become mothers'.
But babies did not come, a fight, she won.
All he could say was 'who's in control son?'
She taunted me with eyes that would not close,
Mum was right and Dad was wrong I suppose.
