Despite a successful 18 months, with highlights including an EP release and playing at the first Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Norfolk Introducing gig, Norwich band The Lidi Berlins have decided to leave their trademark Indie sound to follow a new direction.

The Lidi Berlins formed at the 2007 Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Blast event in Norwich. The scheme encourages 13-19 year olds to pursue their interests in art, dance, film, music, writing and games.

Although the band has received a welcome reaction from local music fans, they now feel it's time to develop their sound.

Creating a new sound

"It's important we move on," said Lucy, lead singer and guitar player of the band.

"Although you can't ignore your old songs, when we were recording in early 2008, we were still finding our sound. Our music was quite simple and a bit kitschy," she added.

Fans of The Lidi Berlins needn't panic – they haven't 'done a Radiohead'.

Their new sound should still be accessible to their existing audience, with it being progressive rather than genre-hopping.

The band will still draw on the strong lyrics and distinctive vocals that have gained them the reputation they deserve.

"Obviously you will hear the similarities in our new songs. We still have Pop sensibilities, but our music is now more complex," said Lucy.ΜύΜύ

Changing instrumentation

The band regularly uses bass and electric guitar at their concerts, but they have recently opted to play acoustic sets.

It was whilst playing their song 'D Major' with acoustic instrumentation that the band thought about taking a new direction.

"That was quite different for us; it marked a turning point. It's not like our other songs as it's more melodic," said Lucy.Μύ

Big decisions

Big decisions will need to be made regarding the future of the band in 2009.

Lucy, 18, and Becky, the drumming 17 year old, are planning to head off to University in September 2009, while Alex, who is currently only 16, will still be back in school.

"We haven't talked about our future that much. We're just going to enjoy the time we have now, get a few songs out and see how things go," said Alex.
