London's famous Maida Vale studios have encased the sounds of some of the greatest musicians - from Jimi Hendrix to Led Zeppelin and The White Stripes.

Now a Norwich band are getting their chance to make their mark with a recording session, re-treading the paces of those who have rocked audiences across the globe.

The Kabeedies' quirky punky-pop sound will stream through the mixing desk on Wednesday, 9 January for the session, which has been set up by new music programme Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Norfolk Introducing and Radio 1's Huw Stephens show.

The teenage four-piece, whose signature style is a fast, short and pacey affair, will put down four songs, while working with some of the country's most experienced engineers.

Singer Katie Allard, 18, said the band are delighted to be heading into Maida Vale's studio four, where the renowned Peel Sessions were laid down.

"So excited"

"We all think it's really fantastic and we're so excited," said Katie, who is studying for an English degree at Norwich City College.

"This is something we've always aimed to do. Our friends Cheeky Cheeky And The Nosebleeds played there not so long ago for Steve Lamacq so they've been giving us some tips.

"I listen to Radio 1 and it's going to give us a lot more exposure. More people will get to listen to our music and it will hopefully give us a bigger fan base," she added.

The aural fruits of their labours will be broadcast in two parts on Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Norfolk Introducing.

The band will join presenters Adrian Cooke, Jack Dearlove and Katherine Nash in the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio Norfolk studio between 7 and 8pm on Friday, 11 January when two of their songs will be played, with a further two to be aired the following week.

Radio 1 exposure

Radio 1 presenter Huw Stephens will also pick two tracks to feature on his Best Of Introducing show for Wednesday, 16 January - and said he was sure The Kabeedies would make the most of the opportunity.

"So many incredible bands have been through the Maida Vale doors, from the biggest in the world to the smallest," said Huw.

"But not every band gets to play there - it's a place steeped in history and always brings out the best in the musicians.

"I get a tingle down the spine every time I go there as it has a real sense of occasion when a band plays there."

The session comes on top of a confidence-boosting stream of events for The Kabeedies, which is also made up of guitarist and vocalist Evan Jones, 17, from Woodbridge, bassist Rory Hill, 16, from Norwich, and drummer Francis 'Fab' Bell, 18, from Lowestoft.

EDP winners

Although the band have been together for less than a year, they've already clinched the EDP's Next Big Thing band competition, sealing a recording session and a support slot for The Futureheads' gig at the Waterfront at the end of the month.

The Kabeedies - started by Katie and Evan who met while pupils at the New Eccles Hall, near Snetterton - got their career off to a good start at one of their first gigs.

They were picked to play a showcase at Hyde Park last summer for Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Blast after impressing organisers at a local gig, put together by the Blast team and promoters Great Leap Forward.

Debut single

The Maida Vale slot will ensure the band are match fit before they record their first single, Lovers Ought To, at the weekend.

Their record is due out in April 2008 and in the lead-up they will be playing gigs in Brighton and Cambridge.
