It was a nightmare for two couples on Strictly's Halloween week as they battled it out in the dance-off to remain in the competition.

Dr Punam Krishan and her partner Gorka Marquez became the fifth couple to be voted out.

Punam and Gorka received the joint lowest score on Saturday night and were up against Shayne Ward and Nancy Xu in the dreaded dance-off.

Punam said: “I am really proud of myself."

Strictly's Spooktacular kicked off with Chris McCausland and Dianne Buswell taking to the floor with a samba.

But they ended up in a scary position at joint bottom of the leaderboard with a score of 26.

Tasha Ghouri and Aljaz Skorjanec got the highest Halloween Samba score ever with a frighteningly good score of 37 points.

It beat the previous Samba record also set by Aljaz back in 2015, when he scored 34.

The dance-off saw Shayne and Nancy, and Dr Punam and Gorka perform their routines again for a chance to dance next week.

Speaking to Tess about leaving the show, Punam said:

"My kids are so proud, my parents, my husband, everyone. Week after week it’s been incredible. I’ve made friends for life and everyone’s just been so kind, so thank you.”

Next week, the remaining ten couples will don their dancing shoes once more for the brand-new icons themed week.
