Team GB have got their first Olympic medal of 2024 in the bag with a bronze-winning performance at the women's synchronised 3m springboard.

Diving team Yasmin Harper and Scarlett Mew Jensen managed to claim a podium position after a dramatic series of rounds at the Paris Aquatics Centre.

Scarlett had been out of action after an injury that she recovered from just one month ago, saying that her teammate "Yas has been completely supportive".

Their success secures Britain’s first female diving medal at an Olympic Games for 64 years.

It was also the first Team GB medal on the first day of the Olympics for 20 years, which made it even more special.

Just like the spectacular dives on display, there were more than a few twists and turns before Scarlett and Yasmin won their bronze medal.

Their first round of dives saw them with a position in second place, but in later rounds they moved down to sixth and then back up to fourth - just within touching distance of the podium.

It was an error from third place Australian pair Maddison Keeney and Anabelle Smith that meant Team GB moved into the bronze-winning position.

Yasmin, who turns 24 tomorrow, said: "To come away with the first medal in so long in the women's diving is incredible, the perfect birthday present for tomorrow."
