As you head back to school you might be wondering where this year's summer weather was.

You wouldn't be alone in wondering as this summer wasn't as warm as previous years.

In fact, the Met Office have reported that this was the UK's coolest summer for nine years.

Over recent years we've experienced warmer summers, in fact we haven't had temperatures so low across the season since 2015.

As well as being cooler than recent summers, this year has seen contrasting weather in different parts of the UK.

The South and East have had more of a typical UK summer, meanwhile the North-West has been a lot more cool and wet.

Temperatures peaked on the 12 August this year, reaching 34.8C in Cambridge.

However, statistics from the Met Office show the the daily average temperature across the UK was just 14.37C, which is below average.

Last September we had a record-breaking seven days where temperatures reached 30C or more.

However, it is unlikely that we will see that in 2024.

But, forecasts show that we should have some drier and warmer weather to look forward to.

Temperatures are reported to rise for many parts of the UK by the middle of this coming week.
