The makers of Wallace and Gromit are teaming up with toy brand Mattel to bring back a famous children's TV series.

Pingu, a stop-motion animated series, featured a cheeky penguin and his adventures in the South Pole.

It was shown on UK TV in the 1990s and 2000s.

Animation studio Aardman, the team behind Wallace and Gromit and Chicken Run, said: "There are so many stories yet to tell, we can’t wait to get started."

Mattel, who are behind huge toys such as Barbie and Hot Wheels, say they are excited to "create fresh snow-filled stories about our favourite penguin that are sure to warm hearts worldwide”.

Pingu first appeared on �鶹Լ�� One in 1990.

He is a sweet and clumsy penguin who lives in the South Pole and, despite not speaking English, has a catchphrase - "Noot noot!"

He often got himself into comical situations, much to the dismay of his mum, dad, little sister Pinga.

Because the dialogue in the series was in a made up language, the show gained worldwide appeal and was always popular amongst young children.

Aardman are known for their stop motion work, which means rather than using solely computer generated animation, they set up model characters, record them in position and move them a tiny bit at a time before editing all the images together to create the final film.
