Music from artists like Billie Eilish and Ariana Grande will be returning to TikTok, after their record group reached a new deal with the social media app.

In January, Universal Music Group (UMG) - one of the biggest music companies in the world - removed songs released by their artists from TikTok.

The company had fallen out with TikTok about the amount of money that they were paying to use music owned by UMG.

Now, UMG say their artists will receive more money when someone on TikTok uses their song in a video.

It comes after Taylor Swift, another UMG artist, who had also removed her music from the app, returned her songs to TikTok last month.

Taylor owns the rights to her music, and so has more control over where they can be used compared to some other artists. Many musicians agree to give away ownership of their song recordings when they sign to a record label.

When UMG-owned songs were removed, many users found that TikToks they'd made with the songs were muted, meaning their content was left without sound.

The process of returning the music is expected to take two weeks, including restoring the audio to those muted clips.

It comes as the social media platform is facing a fight for its survival in the United States, where it plans to challenge a law that could result in it being sold or banned in the country.
