Twyford's road sign issue has gained global attention

Many people are sticklers for good grammar and a missing piece of punctuation certainly raised alarm bells for one resident in the village of Twyford in Hampshire.

Oliver Gray first flagged his concerns in September 2022 after a nearby road, St Mary's Terrace, got a new road sign BUT with no apostrophe.

The story gained attention all over the world and, after a year-long wait, an updated sign was eventually reinstalled by Winchester City Council in a move which left villagers "extremely pleased".

The new sign with the missing apostrophe was frustrating for local residents

Councillor Susan Cook said it was "a small thing but important to people".

"Oliver is a former teacher and he knows his grammar. If you want to change a sign, do it right," she said.

"If it has an apostrophe, it's supposed to have an apostrophe, then it will have an apostrophe."

The apostrophe found its way back to its rightful place in this story, but can YOU figure out where the piece of punctuation should go? Have a go at our quiz below to find out!
