Scotland's bid to reach Euro 2024 will have to wait after their first defeat of the qualifying campaign on a frustrating night in Spain.

Scotland lost 2-0 in their Group A match, after a header from Spain's Alvaro Morata and a late own goal from Ryan Porteous.

Going into the match, the team needed at least a draw to guarantee themselves a spot in the European Championships.

Scotland currently sit at the top of Group A and will qualify for Euro 2024 on Sunday if Norway fails to beat Spain - or, they can do it themselves if they draw or win in their penultimate game against Georgia next month.

Scotland lost their captain Andy Robertson to injury in the first half of the game.

He left the pitch after colliding with Spanish goalkeeper Unai Simon, damaging his shoulder.

"We'll see how it is and how it settles down. Hopefully he's good for his club as soon as possible and ready to help us in November," said Scotland head coach Steve Clarke following the defeat in Seville.

In the match, Scott McTominay thought he'd scored a brilliant free-kick, only for it to be disallowed by VAR because teammate Jack Hendry was offside and interfering with play.

Scotland left the pitch to a rapturous reception from a huge travelling support in Spain, despite the defeat the Scottish fans are enjoying this qualifying campaign.

Scotland have two games left to get over the line and secure themselves a place in the Euros.
