What will be in Minecraft's next big update?

Huge updates and brand new mobs are on their way to Minecraft.

That's right, makers Mojang are set to announce a whole host of new updates at this year's Minecraft Live event - including what's in the next 1.21 update.

Minecraft Live is a big annual event and celebration of the Minecraft community, where the developers give us a sneak peek at some of the new updates they've been working on for the game.

As well as that, each year the developers give people the chance to vote for which new mob they would like adding to the game - more on that below!

The event will be livestreamed online at 6pm UK time on Sunday 15 October.

Penguin, armadillo or crab - which is the best?

In this year's Minecraft mob vote players can choose between the armadillo, the penguin, or the crab to join the game.

Each of the mobs have different features that could help players in the game, including armour for your wolf or making your boat move faster.

Before a big update, Mojang announces a selection of mobs that could join the game.

Players get to vote for their favourite with the results announced during Minecraft Live.

This year the vote opens on 13 October, and finishes 15 minutes before the Live event.

With the Tales & Trails 1.20 update, the sniffer joined the game, and brought new plant seeds with it.

Before that it was the allay, which collected items for players.

This year, it's between the penguin, the armadillo, and the crab, take a look at them below...

Penguin

The penguin will be found in the Stony Shores biome.

It is amphibious - which means it lives on land and also in water.

Its got a pretty helpful feature, it can make players boats move faster through the water if it's swimming alongside you.

Armadillo

The armadillo can be found in the Savannah biome, hiding in the grass.

Just like a real armadillo, it rolls up into a ball - or a block in this case - when it's anxious.

It will drop something called a scute, which can be used to make special armour for your wolf - something that Minecraft has not introduced before.

Crab

The crab will be seen scuttling around the mangrove swamp biome.

It's got a big claw, which will help players place blocks further away.
