Kylian Mbappe has compared himself to a football-playing manga character after picking up an injury while playing for France.

The 19-year-old had to be taken off after 36 minutes with a shoulder injury playing for his country against Uruguay in a friendly.

Mbappe posted a picture of his shoulder bandaged on Instagram next to Japanese comic character Tsubasa Ozora, who is also known as Oliver Atom.

Ozora is from the Japanese manga series Captain Tsubasa and, in the picture, the character is wearing a similar bandage on his shoulder.

In the story, Tsubasa was miraculously saved by his football in a truck accident which left him barely able to walk. He overcomes his disabilities to become the team's star player.

Like Mbappe, Tsubasa's position is midfield or forward and he also wears the number 10 shirt.

Tsubasa plays for FC Barcelona in the story and dreams of winning the Fifa World Cup with Japan, something Mpabbe was able to do with France last summer.

He is an iconic character in Japan and there are three statues of the character in Katsushika, an area of Tokyo.

As for Mbappe, he joins Paris Saint-Germain teammate Neymar on the sidelines.

The Brazilian also came off injured during his side's international friendly against Cameroon.

Despite the loss of their star players, both France and Brazil won their games 1-0.

Now Paris Saint-Germain will hope the pair are fit enough to play against Liverpool in the Champions League on Wednesday.

Mbappe has scored 13 goals in 13 appearances in all competitions so far this season and provided seven assists.

The forward recently donated his World Cup match fees to the Preiers de Cordees association, a charity which helps organise sports activities for children with disabilities.
