Jersey's St John Ambulance Commander, Nigel Truscott, has been presented with his MBE medal at Buckingham Palace.

The Jersey man was made an MBE in the New Year Honours List for his services to St John Ambulance.

Mr Truscott has been a volunteer for the first aid charity for 42 years.

"I am so pleased and proud to receive this MBE. I never expected to receive such an honour but to have this recognition of my service is a real privilege," he said.

His colleagues said he had been the driving force behind many training initiatives in Jersey, including life saving packs for school children in Jersey, St John Ambulance's care courses and the defibrillator programme.
