A 19-year-old man has died after his car was in a crash with an HGV.

It led to the overnight closure of the A55 eastbound between junction 16a Dwygyfylchi and junction 17 Conwy.

Sgt Raymond Williams from North Wales Police said the man's family were being supported by specialist officers.

The collision happened at about 01:35 BST and the road was closed until 10:40 with motorists facing a 43-mile diversion as police continued investigations at the scene.

The collision involved a white Vauxhall Astra and a yellow Volvo HGV.

Sgt Williams thanked "road users for their patience and understanding" while the road was closed.

"I urge anyone who may have witnessed the collision, or anyone who was travelling between Bangor and the scene at around the time of the collision to contact us immediately to assist my team with our investigation," he said.

"I am particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have dashcam footage of either vehicle on the road."
