Police car attacked by Aberdeen raid suspects

Two police officers had to take evasive action after their car was attacked by three men suspected to be linked to a raid at an Aberdeen industrial estate.

The police car's windows were smashed at Glenhome Gardens, where a stolen Mitsubishi Shogun had been found.

The men then escaped in a red VW Golf, described as having "significant collision damage".

It followed a break-in to a commercial premises at Denmore Road in the Murcar industrial estate.

Police are now appealing for help in tracing the Golf, which was seen being driven erratically on Thursday morning.

The Mitsubishi Shogun had been stolen in Peterhead.

Another police car was involved in a crash as it responded to the Aberdeen incident.

It was not pursuing another car.

No injuries

The police vehicle was involved in the two-vehicle collision on Tillydrone Road, at the junction with St Machar Drive, at about 08:20.

Police said no-one was injured as a result.

The building supplies company raid in Aberdeen happened between 04:30 and 06:30.

Det Insp David Howieson, explaining officers had to take "evasive action", said: "A marked police car that initially attended Glenhome Gardens was damaged in a disturbance which involved two officers.

"The two officers were not injured during the disturbance."

He said: "Officers were called to a report of an abandoned vehicle in Dyce.

"We believe this vehicle may have been used in the break in to a commercial premises on Denmore Road in Bridge of Don earlier.

"A second vehicle, the red VW golf, was seen by police in the Glenhome Gardens area but left the area and we subsequently received several calls from members of the public reporting a red VW golf driving erratically in and around Aberdeen.

"We believe the occupants of the VW Golf may be able to assist us with our inquiries into the break in at Denmore Road."

The Mitsubishi Shogun is understood to have been stolen from the Charlotte Street area of Peterhead.
