Police in Aberdeen have made more than 30 arrests as part of a major drugs crackdown.

Operation Maple was launched last week to tackle drugs and violence in the city.

Ten search warrants were carried out as part of the latest phase of the operation, with two men and a woman charged with drug offences.

Heroin and crack cocaine with a total street value of £7,000 have so far been seized.

Operation Maple leader Det Insp Norman Stevenson said: "Our officers are continuing to work hard to deliver the results that their communities have been asking for.

"Operation Maple should leave our communities in no doubt that we are willing to act on the information they provide us with, and while there have been early signs of success, we would still ask the public to continue to work with us to identify those who indulge in drug dealing and anti-social behaviour and we will continue to remove them from our communities."

More than 50 local policing teams are involved in Operation Maple, supported by specialist officers and the force's major investigation teams.

The operation, backed by the Scottish government's Safer Scotland Fund, uses high-profile policing to offer public reassurance, as well as promoting drug treatment services to help reduce the demand for drugs.

Operation Maple involves Grampian Police, Grampian Fire & Rescue Service, NHS Grampian and Aberdeen City Council.
