ScotRail and Network Rail apologise over train services

ScotRail and Network Rail have issued an apology to customers for below par services over the past year.

An open letter on the ScotRail website admits services between Glasgow and Ayrshire, Renfrewshire and Inverclyde, have been below the level expected.

Disruption is blamed on severe weather, vandalism, and work involved with making Β£170m of improvements between Paisley and Glasgow.

Both firms said that "punctuality and reliability levels" were now on target.

'Better performance'

The letter states: "We fully understand the inconvenience caused whilst the works took place and appreciate your patience during disruption.

"Our priority has been to return our services back to the levels you deserve, and we have worked closely to achieve this, with much better performance in recent months.

"A new fleet of modern, comfortable electric trains is now serving the Ayrshire, Inverclyde and Renfrewshire routes, bringing real benefits for travellers."

The letter also states that Network Rail was making improvements to track and signal reliability, tackling vandalism, and increasing the resilience to severe weather.
