M1 in South Yorkshire closed in hunt for wanted man
A stretch of motorway was closed as police officers hunted for a baseball bat-wielding suspect, police said.
The M1 was shut both ways at junction 38 for Huddersfield between 13:00 GMT and 13:40 GMT on Wednesday after reports the wanted man had been spotted on the hard shoulder.
Police had initially been called to reports the man had damaged property in Barnsley.
The M1 had since reopened, South Yorkshire Police said.
Officers were called at about 12:15 GMT after being contacted about a man damaging a property and vehicle on Ballfield Lane in Kexbrough.
He then reportedly fled and went onto the motorway's hard shoulder.
Police said efforts to locate the wanted man were continuing.
