Kent Police said driving conditions across the county remained "treacherous" and warned motorists to continue to take extra care.

The force said falling temperatures overnight could turn rain into ice on untreated roads.

Officers said there had also been some icy stretches on the M25 on Saturday.

Southeastern trains said it hoped to run a normal weekend service but passengers should expect delays and some cancellations.

Assistant Chief Constable Alan Pughsley, of Kent Police, said: "If you are travelling tonight, take time to plan your journey.

"Although the weather has improved, temperatures remain low, meaning any rain could turn to ice on untreated roads. The key message from Kent Police is drive carefully and stay safe."

A spokesman for Southeastern Trains said: "Weather permitting we are aiming to run a normal Saturday and Sunday timetable service this weekend including pre-planned engineering work.

"Because of the ongoing icy conditions we expect there to be cancellations and delays."

There will be no trains between Strood and Paddock Wood, Sittingbourne and Sheerness, Sevenoaks and Otford, Swanley and Rochester, Tonbridge and Orpington and Dartford and London.

Southern Railway said it would running a revised timetable and there were no trains to Epsom Downs, Tattenham Corner, Caterham, Reigate and Tonbridge.

The firm said there were also no services west of Chichester, east of Hastings or south of Oxted.

Over the past few days the UK has been experiencing the earliest widespread snowfall since 1993.
