Jon Hall said the decision to retire had not been an easy one

The head of Gloucestershire's fire and rescue service is retiring after more than 30 years with the organisation.

Chief fire officer Jon Hall, who has held the post for four years, said the decision to leave had not been an easy one as the job "has been my life".

Mr Hall said he was proud to have ended his operational career in Gloucestershire.

Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service said it would announce its plans for the future of the role shortly.

"I have had the privilege of working with many superb firefighters and support staff over the years and continue to be impressed with everyone who chooses to give service in this way," Mr Hall said.

Conservative councillor Will Windsor-Clive, Gloucestershire County Council cabinet member for fire, planning and infrastructure, said Mr Hall would be "sorely missed".
