More than 180,000 shoppers were expected at Birmingham's Bullring Shopping Centre on Sunday, the centre's managers said.

More than 25,000 visitors were inside by noon for the post-Christmas sales after the complex opened at 0900 GMT.

The number of customers is expected to increase on Bank Holiday Monday, general manager Tim Walley said.

Stores have seen a drop in footfall in the days leading up to Christmas due to the heavy snow and icy conditions.

Thousands of shoppers were waiting outside the 160-shop complex ahead of it opening on Sunday.

Mr Walley said: "Throughout the day we expect to see over 180,000 shoppers pass through our doors as our savvy shoppers flock to the centre to take advantage of the bargains on offer.

"During Bank Holiday Monday we expect to see in the region of 200,000 shoppers visit Bullring as the centre opens its doors at 9am, whilst Next opens at 5am to kick-start their post-Christmas sale."
