Tyne and Wear transport operator Nexus to cut posts

  • Published

More than 60 posts are to be cut by Tyne and Wear transport operator Nexus as part of cost-cutting measures.

Consultations are under way on the plans, which represent 9.3% of the company's workforce.

The company, which runs the Metro and buses, said administration staff would be affected and the changes would come into force from April next year.

It said it hoped to achieve reductions through voluntary redundancies and not filling vacant posts.

Nexus director general Bernard Garner said: "Like all public sector bodies we are expected to make significant savings and deliver the same for less.

"We are sharing with our staff an organisation change aimed at improving efficiency so we can deal with any funding reduction without affecting the quality of services we provide."
