Region Profile

The South of Scotland has nine - Ayr; Carrick, Cumnock and Doon Valley; Clydesdale; Dumfriesshire; East Lothian; Ettrick, Roxburgh and Berwickshire; Galloway and West Dumfries; Kilmarnock and Irvine Valley; Midlothian South, Tweeddale and Lauderdale.

The region is home to Prestwick Airport and the nuclear power station at Torness. Scotland’s national poet Robert Burns was born in this region, which is well known for tourism, engineering, fishing and agriculture.

In 2011, the election resulted in four seats being allocated to the SNP; two being won by Labour and one for the Liberal Democrats.
