Jada Pinkett Smith has spoken about her "struggle" days when she was growing up in the US city of Baltimore.

"You have to remember there was Jada Pinkett before there was Jada Pinkett Smith," she told 1xtra's A.Dot.

"Just being raised by a single mum who was a heroin addict should tell you everything," she explained.

She also chatted about her 20 year marriage to Will Smith - and how he reacts to her filming sex scenes.

"After 20 years, all of that is out the window," she joked.

'I definitely know the struggle game'

"There were those days where it was a struggle and survival and paying bills - where's your next meal coming from?

"I got robbed, I had a really bad robbery go down.

"I almost lost my life, and my mother was just like 'you've got to get out of Baltimore'".

So how does Will react to her doing sex scenes?

"Will and I have been married 20 years. He's not feeling any kind of way about that," she said.

Jada and Will met on the set of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air in 1994, and were married in December 1997.

She added that the secret of success in their relationship is "coming to the table with your own happiness".

"One of the things I had to learn... you really have to go off and find what makes you happy for yourself.

"I think that two partners have to go find their happiness, and then come together as two happy people.

"Then what you do is you help build on that happiness.

"But when you're trying to get someone to fill all those holes within you and your pain, and thinking your partner is supposed to save you from your traumas, that's a way to destroy your relationship".
