Lena Dunham criticises magazine for putting her on 'diet tips' cover

Lena Dunham has criticised a magazine for putting her on a front cover suggesting she has "diet tips".

"I don't want to be on this cover because it's diametrically opposed to everything I've fought my whole career for," she wrote on her .

The writer and star of Girls lists 20 reasons as to why she may appear to have lost weight recently.

These included pre-existing medical conditions along with online "threats".

A vocal Hillary Clinton supporter before the election, Lena has been critical of Donald Trump's presidency.

She also refers to political situations in the US, including "watching institutions you love from Planned Parenthood to PBS be threatened by cartoon moustache-twirling villains" as a reason for her stress.

It's not clear from Lena's Instagram feed which magazine has used her image.

Last year she spoke out about magazine airbrushing after a , saying she no longer wanted to have her photographs retouched to change her appearance.

"If that means no more fashion-magazine covers, so be it," .

"If any magazines want to guarantee they'll let my stomach roll show and my reddened cheek make an appearance, I am your girl Friday."

Last week Lena after the Met Gala because of complications from surgery.

She has had a number of procedures to treat her endometriosis, a condition where tissue that normally grows inside the uterus grows outside of it.

It can cause women to experience pain and infertility.

She now says "abdominal adhesions pinning ovary below uterus" are one reasons she may be looking slimmer.

She adds: "It's not a compliment to me [to appear on this cover] because it's not an achievement."
