Tinder gives celebrities blue tick to prove they're real

You're on Tinder, a celebrity pops up on your screen and you swipe right. How can you be sure they are who they claim to be?

Well from now on you can be more certain because the dating app has added a blue verification tick.

"Starting today, you may see a verified symbol on some profiles,"

"When notable public figures appear in your recommendations you'll know it's for real."

The idea has been in the pipeline for a while.

In March last year Tinder's chief executive Sean Rad told the Hollywood Reporter "this will allow celebrities to enter Tinder in a different way."

Ed Sheeran is thought to be the first star offered a blue tick, but he apparently found it "creepy".

Lily Allen is also on there, we're told, although she insists it's just for fun because she is married.

Lindsay Lohan, Katy Perry and Josh Groban are also said to be Tinder users.

So if you fancy a date with any of them...

And log on in their part of the world...

And they pop up in your app...

And you swipe right...

And they see you on their app...

And they then swipe right...

...your dream celeb date is a tiny bit more likely than it was previously.
