Foo Fighters reveal release date for seventh album

Foo Fighters have revealed that that their seventh studio album will be released in the UK on 11 April.

The US band have been recording the follow-up to Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace in Dave Grohl's garage.

The album marks the first time the frontman has worked with producer Butch Vig since Nirvana's Nevermind release.

Foo Fighters also play a string of concerts in the UK this year including a headlining slot at the Isle of Wight and a weekend in Milton Keynes.

New music

In a series of teasers sent out on Facebook, Twitter and the band's website, they also revealed that Nirvana co-founder Krist Novoselic makes a cameo on the new album, contributing bass and accordion to I Should Have Known.

A second clip from the new album was also released on the band's website with fans having to tune a radio dial to 101.5 FM.

The first snippet of music, Bridge Burning, has now been listened to more than half a million times.

The LA-based group have already played their new album in a "surprise" gig for fans in the Velvet Jones club in Santa Barbara, California.

The band also revealed that former Nirvana touring guitarist Pat Smear is joining the "permanent Foo Fighters core" of Grohl, Taylor Hawkins, Nate Mendel and Chris Shiflett.
