James Corden has said he's trying hard to get David Beckham involved in a sketch he's doing for Sport Relief.

The footballer is keen to get involved but the one day he's free, Corden is filming his new quiz show.

"I hope he's going to be involved in the sketch," Corden said. "Amazingly the one date he could do, I can't do. So we're trying to rearrange it."

The scene, due to be aired on 19 March, could see Beckham getting a massage from Smithy (Corden's character in Gavin and Stacey).

F1 champion Andy Murray, Ashes hero Andrew Flintoff and 15-year-old diver Tom Daley will also feature.

"I think I got asked because I did a sketch for Comic Relief with the England football team," Corden explained.

"We're doing a follow-on from that which we hope will have a similar effect and get people to give money."

Corden, 31, also revealed he's going to host the last two hours of the charity event with Davina McCall.

The star's ambitions don't end there, however. In March he'll be joining fun runners across the country for the Sport Relief mile.

He's admitted being unsure about his newly-adopted six mile target.

He said: "I'm going to give it my best shot but I haven't really got an idea how long since miles is.

"I might be in for a bit of a shock next time I'm in the company of a satellite navigation system and it goes, 'You are six miles away' and I go 'What? It's miles away!"

Continuing the active theme, Corden is also set to anchor a new sports panel show on Sky One called A League Of Their Own.

But the decision to become a TV host isn't a conscious career move for Corden.

The actor and comedian admitted that he's just choosing whatever jobs he thinks will be a laugh.

"I don't have any sort of plan. I just like having fun really, so that's my main objective at any point," he said.

"I spend most of my time sitting in a room with my mates talking about sport anyway.

"To get paid to do such a thing will be great. I hope it will be a fun show and people will enjoy watching it."

Gavin and Stacey, the Â鶹ԼÅÄ series that pushed Corden and his co-stars into the limelight, finished for good on New Year's Day.

It was a bittersweet moment for fans and more than 400,000 have signed up to a Facebook group calling for a fourth series to made.

However, fans of Corden's humour shouldn't get too depressed because his partnership with Ruth Jones (Nessa) is set to continue.

He said: "Me and Ruth are about to start writing a film, and I'm trying to write a new TV thing."

Gavin and Stacey may be over but the series is in the running for yet another award on Wednesday evening (20 January).

It's up for best comedy show at the National Television Awards, which are voted for by the public.

The competition's tough though, with The Inbetweeners and Harry Hill's TV Burp also nominated.

Sport Relief takes place form 19-21 March and The National Television Awards is on ITV1 at 7.30pm on 20 January
