A new charity art installation has placed 40 unique statues of the great apes all around the island.

The total hours of sunshine on the island in July beat the record which was set in June 1925.

A second company has been granted a licence to grow a variety of cannabis plant in Jersey.

Hemp - which can be turned into things including clothing, paper and building insulation - has been grown at Warwick Farm in St Helier for the past few years.

But the States has now given a second firm permission to grow the product - which does not contain the psychoactive chemicals that make cannabis users high.

The company - which ministers won't name - has been granted a licence for one growing season, to explore ways of using the plant to make bedding for animals.

Last month, the States said it was considering applications from local companies to produce both hemp and medicinal cannabis in the island.

Striker Ross Allen's best season came in 2013 when he scored 54 goals when GFC made the play-offs.

The team hasn't finished higher since.

Almost 90% of all ferry sailings from Jersey harbours left within half-an-hour of their expected time between April and June, according to new figures.

However, there was an increase in the number of late sailings.

The figures from the Ports of Jersey showed about 5% of crossings were involved in "moderate" delays - which are delays of up to two hours.

The Ports of Jersey says a lot of the problems were due to Manche Iles cancelling its sailings and technical problems with the Condor Liberation in May.

There are plans to reduce the number of rats living on two of the smaller Channel Islands.

The national charity, the RSPB, is concerned about the threat the rodents pose to wild birds and their chicks on Jethou and Herm in particular.

It is working with Herm's pest controller Mark Latter to develop ways to better protect them.

Mr Latter says they'll keep the local environment at the forefront of any plans they draw up.

Almost half of the islanders being helped by Jersey's mental health services at the end of last year were over the age of 65.

A those aged between 50 and 64 were the next most likely to be using mental health services.

Fewer 25 to 30 year olds were using the services than any other age group.

A Jersey politician wants to crack down on the number of cars parking illegally on beaches and slipways in his parish.

Constable Mike Jackson says he is concerned the vehicles could block access in emergencies, putting beachgoers at risk.

Last weekend, four people were given parking fines in St Brelade for parking opposite the pier without a permit.

The Guernsey Arts Commission (GAC) is looking to increase creative funding by hiring new directors.

The directors will take up their position before the end of the year and serve for between three and five years.

Working in collaboration with the Guernsey Community Foundation, the GAC has been exploring ways to increase funding for the arts.

While a passion for the arts is essential, the new directors do not need to be professional creatives themselves, bosses said.

The commission is looking for skilled communicators and innovators, ideally with experience of serving on a board and turning a strategy into actions.
