Jersey is to offer year eight boys the vaccine to prevent human papillomavirus (HPV), which can cause a variety of cancers.

The vaccine has been available to girls on the island for over a decade to guard against cervical cancer later in life.

Recent scientific studies in the UK have shown men have been benefiting significantly from the indirect "herd protection" that has built up from 10 years of the girls’ vaccination programme.

    Quote Message

For the younger generation, the HPV vaccine is a game changer. We anticipate there will be a future recommendation in coming years telling us that those women who were vaccinated as girls need only have cervical screening a few times in their lifetime."

  6. Further review of actions taken after care inquirypublished at 08:53 British Summer Time 10 July 2019

    Â鶹ԼÅÄ Radio Jersey

The progress on legislation, the States' role as a corporate parent, the "Jersey Way" and legacy issues relating to the finding of the Jersey Independent Care Inquiry is being reviewed.

Released in July 2017 the inquiry's report into seven decades of abuse found children may still be at risk in the island's care system.

The Care of Children in Jersey Review Panel was formed to look at the progress made by the Council of Ministers to ensure a safe and secure environment for children in care - based on the inquiry's recommendations.

A review looking at the first four recommendations - a commissioner for children, giving children and young people a voice, inspection of services and building a sustainable workforce - was published in December.

The panel is now focused on the other four recommendations.

It will be writing to key stakeholders and the public are invited to get in touch by 16 August.

    Quote Message

There are a number of overarching issues that fall throughout the four recommendations, especially in relation to legislation and the perception of the ‘Jersey Way’, and we are especially interested to gather views and evidence in relation to how they have been responded to by the government."

Rob Ward, Chairman of the Care of Children in Jersey Review Panel
