Drink-drive arrest after van hits school

A man has been arrested on suspicion of drink-driving after a van crashed into a primary school in Derbyshire.

Officers were called to the crash at Highfield Hall Primary School in Newbold at about 16:25 GMT on Wednesday.

They found the vehicle had hit the school building and a parked car had also been damaged.

The 47-year-old van driver, who suffered minor injuries, was subsequently arrested and remains in police custody.

Derbyshire Police has appealed for witnesses and dashcam footage.
