A road has been closed following a fire at a pub in a town centre.

Crews were called to a reports of a fire on Deansgate in Bolton, Greater Manchester, just before 05:00 BST, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFR) said.

Firefighters have been in attendance for four hours and one fire engine remains at the scene.

A spokesperson for the service said people were being asked to avoid the area.

Six fire engines, along with the Command Support Unit, Technical Response Unit and Breathing Apparatus Unit, from across Greater Manchester were in attendance, the spokesperson said.

"Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus carried out a search of the property and used three hose reels to extinguish the fire," they added.

"Deansgate Road is currently closed, therefore we are asking people to please avoid the area for the time being."
