Arrest after van driven through fence in theft bid

A man has been arrested after a van was driven through a fence in Stoke-on-Trent following reports of a vehicle theft.

Police were sent to Fife Street, Fenton, at about 02:55 BST on Friday after a call about somebody trying to drive a VW Caddy out of a compound.

The vehicle was abandoned after they failed to get it all the way through the fence.

A 42-year-old man from Stoke-on-Trent has since been arrested on suspicion of attempted vehicle theft, and remains in custody.
