A murder inquiry has been launched after a woman was found dead.

Police found the 35-year-old victim with "multiple wounds" in Walnut Avenue, Bury, after responding to concerns for her welfare at about 22:30 BST on Friday.

She was pronounced dead shortly afterwards and her relatives have been informed, Greater Manchester Police said.

Det Insp Matthew Hamer said no arrests had been made but police had identified a suspect and "do not believe they pose any wider threat and at this time no one else is being sought".

An investigation is continuing and the force has appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
