Biker, 37, dies in crash with car near Motherwell

A man has died after his motorbike was in collision with a car in North Lanarkshire.

The fatal crash happened near Motherwell, on the A775 Edinburgh Road, at 16:25 on Monday.

Police Scotland said the biker - a 37-year-old man - died at the scene but the 59-year-old male car driver was not hurt.

Officers have appealed for information about the crash, which happened near the junction for Biggar Road, and involved a blue Yamaha YZF R1 motorbike and a red Ford Focus.

The road was closed for seven hours while officers investigated the crash, and it reopened at about 23:25.

Sgt Nick Twigg said: β€œOur thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who died.

β€œOur inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and anyone who can assist is asked to get in touch.

β€œIf you were driving near the area at the time and have not already spoken to police, or have dash-cam that could assist then .”
