A man who sold heroin and crack cocaine to an undercover police officer has been jailed for 32 months.

Nozmul Alom, 23, is one of dozens of people to be charged as part of a police operation to target drug dealing in Keighley.

Bradford Crown Court was told the undercover officer posing as an addict rang a known dealer on three occasions last year and each time Alom turned up to give him the drugs in exchange for cash.

He pleaded guilty to six offences of supplying Class A drugs.

'Lives a misery'

A community impact statement provided by police and read to the court said drug-related offending was having a significant impact on the lives of people, communities and businesses.

The court was told Alom, of Nightingale Street, Keighley, had psychological vulnerabilities and was of low IQ and that he had been performing a limited function under the direction of others.

His barrister, Conor Quinn, said those higher up the chain needed young men of good character with vulnerabilities who would do what they were told without causing trouble or asking too many questions.

However, jailing him, Judge Colin Burn said Alom had been caught as part of an operation to target the widespread drug dealing in some parts of the centre of Keighley because it was making people’s lives a misery.
